Volker Straub appointed to C3 Scientific Advisory Board

Coalition to Cure Calpain 3 (C3) is pleased to share that Dr. Volker Straub has been appointed to our Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), joining Dr. Melissa Spencer (Chair), Dr. Kevin Campbell, Dr. Eric Hoffman, and Dr. Louis Kunkel.

Professor Volker Straub is the Director of the John Walton Muscular Dystrophy Research Centre and Deputy Dean for Newcastle University’s Translational and Clinical Research Institute. He is a Consultant in Neuromuscular Genetics and Paediatrics, and an NIHR Senior Investigator. Dr. Straub has a long-standing interest in the pathogenesis of genetic muscle diseases, with research involving disease models, the application of imaging technologies, next generation sequencing, and machine learning. He is the Chief/Principal Investigator for several natural history studies and interventional clinical trials in rare neuromuscular disorders. He is the current president of the World Muscle Society and an author on over 450 peer-reviewed publications.

About the C3 SAB

An engaged SAB is vital to C3’s efforts to drive research towards a treatment or cure for LGMD2A/R1 (Calpainopathy). Our SAB members contribute meaningfully to this goal by sharing their expertise with the Scientific Director and Board of Directors in myriad ways, including reviewing research grant proposals, evaluating their progress, and providing insight, feedback, and information on scientific matters.
